Millennium Trail Maps and guides & National Millennium Trail Projects

What is a Millennium Trail?  National Millennium Trails are the 16 long-distance trails in various stages of planning, construction, and completion. Many have a historical significance, while others are simply long-distance dream trails with portions in the planning stage. Perhaps the longest Millennium Trail is the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail at 3,700 miles. The National Millennium trail project attempted to select 2,000 trails to honor and promote. Some of the designated Millennium trails might leave you scratching your head like the International Express Millennium Trail which follows the Flushing Subway line and elevated railroad between Flushing and Sunnyside NY.  One crown jewel of all American trails is The Appalachian Trial -One of the longest natural trails and one of the most beautiful. How Long Is the Appalachian Trail? 2,179.1 Miles  To show your support for the AT donate here Website- What is Appalachia?

Major National Millennium Trail Projects & Proposals

Some portions of 16 major Millennium Trail projects cover existing trails such as the Appalachian Trail, city streets, proposed trails, and some are actual new purpose built trail systems. While the fantasy of the Millennium Trail system does clash with the reality of what actually exists, the concept is very appealing. NOW OPEN! 50 Mile Millennium Trail Segment Skirting Portions of the Shores of Puget Sound

The creation of the Coast Millennium Trail is an exciting project that incorporates a number of improvements to existing trails and links together bike lanes to create an impressive 50 mile long bike trail through one of Northwest Washington's most beautiful regions. This will come in effect a cyclist dream highway stretching from Colony Creek in northwestern Skagit County, all the way to the Canadian Boarder in Blain.

Plans are in the making for a border-to-border hiking/biking trail from Southern California to the Canadian border and beyond. The route has been mapped out and defined, but just like any grand scheme-- the devil is in the details. Fortunately, the Whatcom County portion of the trail is already in place and waiting for you to enjoy.  Before you hit the trails you will want to be prepared with the right hiking equipment and camping gear for multi-day hikes or cycling trips.

THE GRAND PLAN FOR THE A GRAND AMERICAN TRAIL SYSTEM
